Renaissance Costumes and History

This is one of the coolest stores:

http://www.renstore.com/currentad.asp#continued

Not only do they have wonderful costumes they have cool historical articles they e-mail you with their monthly ad. The above link, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, takes you to an article on Beguines from the 13th century. Sometimes they show you how to make a Renaissance craft or spotlight some Renaissance-themed wedding. For anyone even vaguely interested in the Renaissance, you really should check them out. Yes, their costumes are a bit pricey, but I have gotten many ideas on how to make my own for much less by just browsing their store. Then when I realize I just can't make something, like a lace snood, I know where to go to order it.

They also list some Renaissance and Pirate Faires around the country. Perhaps there is one close to you on the list? If so, you really should try to find a way to go. They are so much fun!

That is a really cool site, thank you for sharing.

You know, if you really want to make your own 'costumes etc, Wal-Mart has some very interesting sewing patterns in those same styles. Check them out in the sewing and craft department next time you go there. I have some really cool patterns for a lot of different outfits that I plan to make for myself one day--when I get a sewing machine. :)

As far as patterns go, I shop at Hancock Fabrics when they have their $1.00 sale on certain brands of patterns. Simplicity has some truly wonderful patterns. We don't shop at Wal-Mart - we refuse to support such an uncaring company.

Thanks for all your comments!

Bright blessings, Laura.

Which Hancock Fabrics do you shop at? I usually go to the one on Austin Peay. It is closest to my home.

They do have some beautiful fabrics.

Have a great week.
